Modernising the customer experience does not mean replacing the banking system. In most cases the core banking system works and should stay: what is missing is a layer of digital channels that connects to it cleanly and evolves at its own pace.
1. Start from journeys, not screens
Account opening, product subscription, loan application, complaint: each journey has its steps, supporting documents, lead times and breaking points. Describing them first avoids reproducing, in mobile form, an internal process designed for the branch counter.
2. Articulate digital channels with the core banking system
Digital channels — mobile app, customer portal, online onboarding — draw on the existing system’s services rather than duplicating its data. That requires a stable application interface layer, clear transaction handling and explicit rules for when the central system is unavailable.
3. Go live in stages
A progressive rollout limits risk: one journey first, on a restricted group of customers, with completion and drop-off rates monitored. Test and acceptance phases are secured before opening to the public, and each further step builds on what was measured.
4. Support the internal teams
A digitised journey changes the work of branches and the back office. Training for teams and managers, adapted procedures, close monitoring of the first weeks: without that support, customers move online while internal processing stays manual.
Where to start
Pick a single journey, the one generating the most manual pick-ups or drop-offs. We establish its current state, identify the core banking services to expose, and deliver a first measurable version before extending.
